Webmaster : Was this square in Hougthon or Penshaw?
I think maybe your best bet is to try some old maps thrugh the ordanance survey. for example:www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk and see historic maps. There are also numerous publications of old photos of houghton and penshaw available in the sunderland libraries.

Hello Fr. Bill, Christine and everyone.  Sorry I have not been in touch earlier but have taken time to settle the family into life in New Zealand or paradise as we call it.  We are all fine and enjoying a very mild winter.  The scenery is terrific and we are very lucky living close to the sea.  We miss all of our friends a lot and the community of St Michael's...no coffee morning as such here..yet!  We hope the children in Daniel's class have a wonderful time at their own Holy Communion days and wish them and their families well.  I'll write soon with more detail.  Hope Christine and you, Father are well.  Don't work too hard.
Much love and blessings, Nicky xxxxx

Webmaster : The offical answer to personal enquireies of this sort is...

We do not keep ANY old registers in the presbytery; they are all at the Archive Office.  The address is:-

    Tyne and Wear Archive Services
    Blandford House
    Blandford Square
    Newcastle upon Tyne
    NE1 4JA

TEL:  0191 232 6789  If you telephone you should ask for the search room.

Copies can be accessed at the Heritage Department, The Discovery Museum, Newcastle or Sunderland City Centre Library, Fawcett Street, Sunderland.

Unfortunately if you are looking for living contacts in the parish there is little we can do apart from print off the e-mail and put it on the church notice board.
We cannot give out personal telephone numbers or addresses even if a name is recognised. You'll just have to hope someone in the parsh sees your posting!
    happy hunting :-)
