Heard about the youth council and was wondering how I may help. The better way to message me through myspace but reg E-mail is fine. Hope I can help. Any parish holding the surname of my lineage must be an interesting one.

Thanks for your interest J.D., it's nice to hear from you.
Although the youth council has been extremely successful, and I'm very proud of the young people and their achievements, unfortunately we had to wind it up this summer through lack of support. Sad

I came across your website because I am a Parish Councillor in Hethersett, near Norwich and a group of us have been asked to look at the possibilityof starting up a Youth Parish Council.  There used to be one, but most of the members either went off to University or changed areas so it folded.  I am really impressed by what you've done.  We really want to get young people involved, because frankly, what's the point otherwise!  We are a large village with it's own designated building for a youth club, but again this isn't currently being used.  What I'd like is any help/advice you have in starting up and getting interest in the Youth Parish Council and what worked and what didn't work for you.  Any help would be most gratefully received.

Dear Admin,
What a pleasant change : Guestbook entries that are read and replied to,by Admin. Good
I have not seen this welcome feature previously,in any other Guestbook.....
My searching the internet brought me to the Whetstone,Leicestershire website, then to this Guestbook.
I am hopeful that you or your readers may be willing and able to use long memories and local knowledge , to help in my attempts to follow in the footsteps of a late uncle , Walter J. Urquhart...
Sgt. Urquhart had served in the British Army throughout the Second World War...
After the war , Walter Urquhart and his wife Margaret settled at number 10 , Hillcrest Avenue ,Kibworth Beauchamp   . The couple's daughter , Margaret , was born there in 1947.
The Urquharts later moved to Whetstone ,where their address was King Street Farm. They were at that address for some time ; in fact they were there for at least twelve years ,between 1955 and 1967.
It's also quite possible that they lived at King Street Farm, beyond those years.

Maybe someone with local knowledge might know of the farm and where it was situated   ? And they might what happened to the farm?
Perhaps somebody could possibly remember the Urquhart family   ?
And young Margaret Urquhart   ( born in 1947   ) would presumably have attended school/s in the neighbourhood.
Thank-you for your website and the opportunity to make contact with Whetstonians.
Ray

    King Street Farm ,Whetstone(1954 -1968):
...Further to my Guestbook entry of 04 June 2006 , below   ....
I have now checked the telephone directories ,
and the entry : " Urquhart , Walter J., King Street Farm ", appears as a listing for the years 1954 - 1968.
So it's likely that some local folk could possibly remember the Urquharts :- Scots-born Walter and his wife Margaret , and their Leicestershire-born daughter ,Margaret  Question  Good  Confused

My great grandparents lived in Whetstone. James Henry Tubby m Annie Sussanah Savage. They had a daughter, Annie Elizabeth Tubby   (my grandmother). they left and travelled to Sydney NSW,Australia in 1884.Wondered if there were any Tubby decendants living in the area?
Would love to one day visit my grandmothers b/place. Do not know where abouts in the town they lived.

my brother-in-law at present is working at The Works GEC he states that there are spooky events with in the place,a man throwing a spanner, people talking to strangers who are not there, also a dentist whos chair is surposed to be within the building where you can hear the screems and the sounds of a drill at work.Is there any truth in any of the above.

hi, firstly i would like to congratulate the youth council on its great work so far, I am very impressed by it all. especially the three lottery grants and variety of projects benefiting the community. I was wondering if you could supply me with any information about your council for example, what has worked well, what hasnt, how were problems fixed within the council etc. As i am currently working with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and we are very interested in setting up a youth council and are looking for advice/guidelines on how to get started. Your youth council has recieved such possitive appraisal we might possibly benchmark our council against yours   (when it eventually gets running) Thank you in advance for your help, and well done on all your successes.

Hello to the Village of Whetstone! My Great-Great-Grandfather Thomas immigrated to the States about 1870. My Father would tell me that he sailed probably from Portsmouth   (?). His Family had somthing to do with Birmingham-shire? It would be interesting to know if he also came from the Whetstone area?
