Be prepared to dig deeper in your pockets, this city is in so deep over its head in debt ,they are raising taxes 7 percent. Bruns, Hatcher, Wilson, and Cooke can not wipe their behind without Don Smith folding their paper for them.I hope the citizens out here wake up before its to late.
The EDC voted to give the motel that is being built, $50,000 dollars, has anyone noticed the same bunch is building the motel , that was building Wayne Burts shopping center. After this bunch was put in office they went ahead and gave Wayne Burt $160,000 before the shopping center was finished . Then he says I am not finishing the shopping center. ( ALL HE WANTED FINISHED WAS THOSE TOWN HOMES)But they did not demand the money back, and it was only to be given to him when the shopping center was finished. The same company is building the motel so I guess Wayne Burt has his hand out for another $50,000.

Rasmussen wasn't even here when the city gave Ridgmar land to Ft. Worth. We did not have the money for the sewers and water , neither did Ft Worth. We could have done the same thing Ft Worth did make a deal with the developers . Ft Worth did not develope that land developers did and they got a tax break. Our city leaders then and now do not look to the future, all they see is their own nose.

all the property eats of 183 (ridgmar mall) was inside WS city limits and was owned by leanord brothers who wanted to develop the land but ws did not have the money to provide water and sewer service so ws traded land with fw. don't believe it? ask wayne burt. he was mayor at the time.

the money for the pool plans was in the 2008-2009 budget. there are no funds in the 2009-2010 budget for the pool plans or a pool. does it make sense to spend money for plans for something that will not be built?...rog talked about roads in town. why not use the pool plan money for roads? makes more sense to do that.

The only money spent is for plans and specifications. Aparently you do not understand how design cost goes..if you spend 317,000.00 now what would you spend in 5 years? about 450,000.00 maybe more. The money was placed in the budget LAST YEAR! if you had such a problem with it you could have said something then. But wait that would make more sence huh. As was stated these plans will enable the city to build the pool when the time is right. sorry no one asked you personnally but there are procedures that are followed they are called laws and none of them have ben broken! you just need something to bitch about. Why doesn't the EDC give out low intrest loans or grants to some of the business owners in W.S. to help rehab some of the buildings along White Settlement road or Cherry Lane.Help pretty up the city instead of spending money for something that many never come about?

Mayor Burns: Allen, I sit on EDC also and ah when the plans were brought forth and that was all discussed on EDC, that�s back when the economy was booming. �Yes sir!� Allen Price. �And we certainly have sense enough to know when the economy went belly-up that even though that everything we ever asked the citizens about as far as our priorities, that was number one. We certainly not going to stretch our neck when things are going crazy. When, if that comes up that will be in a reasonable time frame and it will be done in a economic time when it�s more conducive to doing it properly.

�Well that�s what I thought, But I just wanted to clear it up because people are thinking that you are going to go out and spend money that we don�t really have to do at this particular time with the way the economy is . But I want to thank you for explaining that to our listeners out here and to me. Thank you very much!

Jack Cook: �If you wouldn�t mind, I�d like to say too, I�m a member of EDC myself, and the only thing we�re looking at I�m in firm agreement that this is not the time to move on it. But I think there�s been a couple surveys that�s been done Citizens have said that they would like to see that in the future. That they would like to have it as a part of it. so EDC has looked at that and has determined that this is some, one of the goals that we do have in the city as well.

But as far as doing it right now, I don�t think there�s any of us who would say put it in right now Not with the economy like it is right now I think the flood control and our sewer situation and these type things are a little more important. And so that�s the standing of the EDC from my point of view as well�

More Money Spent on Swimming Pool Plans
On June 25th the EDC (Economic Development Corporation) approved spending $224,000 for detailed swimming pool plans. At the same time they claimed that there are no funds for street repairs in the 2009-2010 EDC budget (outside the federal Community Development Block Grant money).

So has the economy considerably improved, and have we completed the flood control or sewer projects since February 2009? No, we haven�t.
