Paul

The reference to Lourdes being in Newfoundland was added by the person who rehashed my submitted Hall of Fame profile on Joe Beaton.

I have found no evidence that he was not born in Nova Scotia.

Re:  Joe Beaton

Paul,

Joe was 5'-5" high and weighed 145 lbs.
He was featured on a British cigarette card produced by W.D. & H.O. Wills - number 37 in their series British Sporting Personalities.

He is also a member of the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame.

I am part of a all time hockey draft and Archie Stinchcombe and Jimmy Foster have been selected.

Joe Beaton hasnt been picked yet but I ll probably select him.

This is the bio thread for our draft if you want to check it out. Please keep in mind that it is a work in progress.

We have held 5 All Time Drafts while selecting over 580 different players from the NHL NHA WHL BNL Nation Teams of Russia. Sweden. Finland CzechoSlovakia etc

Hello I am Joe Beatons grand nephew.

I beleive he was born in small village called Port Hood or Mabou on Cape Breton Island which is the northern part of the province Nova Scotia.

The locale Lourdes part of Joes one time residence is correct. Lourdes is near Truro Nova Scotia. Lourdes NFLD  is a differnet town with the same name.

His brother Bobby is still alive and alert at age 94.He lives in Pictou County,NS and he even drives his own car. Bobby also played in the BNL with Streatham and he too played with the use of one eye damaging it as a young child.

Bobby I beleive would have info on his and his brothers playing days back in the old BNL.

Absence of Curtis Cruikshank from this years All-Star Teams   (2005-6) is a real head scratcher.

Cruikshank had a better save percentage of 0.933 to Koenig and Minard's 0.925's and a better Goals Against Average of only 2.04 to Koenig's 2.23 and Minard's 2.33.

And on top of that he had not 1, not two, not three...but eight shut outs!

Why didn't he make the All-star team therefore?

Why is there so little coverage of our sport in the national media   ? Is this the resposibility of the EIHL press office   ? Surely, in order to attract a major sponsor, we must ensure as much high profile exposure as possible   ? What are the chances of SKY TV once again covering our games, perhaps as a weekly round up   ?

You are correct, the information supplied by the two authors was wrong.

The entry has now been amended with the deletion of the reference to Nottingham.

I have been reading through history section of this site and am paticularly interested in the following section of the article.

"Some of these visiting teams were homeless sides   (Nottingham,   Streatham, Richmond, Harringay, etc)."

As a Nottingham supporter, I wasn't previously aware of any team representing Nottingham after the closure of the Panthers in 1960 and would be interested to know if any information exists about this team. Did they use the name 'Panthers' for instance? Any information about them would be very welcome.

Many thanks,
Kim
