According to the player database on the web-site of the Society for International Hockey Research(SIHR) Henry HAYES was born on 7 Jan 1914 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He died of heart failure on 28 Jan 1994. He was a 5'-10" high left-winger, weighing 172lbs.

He came to Europe in 1933 and played for Zurcher SC and St. Moritz then moved to England where he turned out for Earls Court Rangers and Streatham of the English National League. Returning to Canada in 1939 he played for teams in Lachine, Cornwall, Shawinigan, Montreal, Hull, Sherbrooke and Sydney.

Returning to England in 1948 he rejoined Earls Court Rangers before going to Streatham in 1952. From 1952 he concluded his playing career in Scotland with first Dunfermline Vikings then Fife Flyers of the Scottish National League until 1955.

From 1947 he was player-coach with most of his teams.

Hope this is of some help.

Sounds to me that Henry must have cut you at one time. All other info on him  states that he was a HARD WORKING PLAYER AND A STRICT DISCIPLINARIAN who expected hard work from his players. I knew him in his later years and and saw him working with young kids. they all loved him   !!! According to the book Flashing Blades by Phil Dracket he was a good PLAYER AND COACH    COMMENT

I agree with Roy Saunders, that some of the players from the 50s & 60s that played for England should  be recognised.  In those days we paid for our ice time and practiced and played early mornings and late nights whenever the ice was available.

dear sir I agree with Graham   {del} e-mail the players from 50s 60s are forgotten men now I played for murrayfield 60s then paisley then back to murrayfield finishing up at fife flyers in 86 during which times I have great recollections of games against Wembley Lions, Southampton Vikings, Brighton Tigers Whitley Bay, and Durham
during my playing days I was privlaged
to play against and with some of the legends of the game which many deserve more recognition than some of the modern players yours in friendship Freddie Wood

att. Stuart Walker Hi Stuart Freddie Wood here as you can see from below I played hockey from the early sixties until the mid eighties at the highest level. I would like to bring to your attention the recent removal of Stuart Muir from the chair of the SIHA. What a shocking move. I have known Stuart for more than 45 years when he started playing and no one has done more for ice hockey than him, from coaching the kids for many years and many of them playing senior hockey today and spent many years as a referee which he still does travelling all over the country.
He has made tremendous changes to the modern game since taking the chair and involved many senior ex-players to keep in the game. Stuart has done great things for the sport and has been stabbed in the back by his so called colleagues for maybe being too honest and speaking his mind. I hope these persons that think they know better are feeling good about themselves as this was not good for ice hockey in anyway or form. Stuart Muir has given ice hockey many years of his life for the love of the sport and is one of the true stars whom should be recognised for what he as done for others in the game. I think if you were to look into Stuarts past 45 years in ice hockey it would be a fitting tribute for someone to write a book of ice hockey within ice hockey with the true facts and hard times with no holds barred. I hope you read my comments in your guest book of my past hockey days yours in friendshp.
